Could this be the moment that the UK fans and Europe have been waiting for? Today sources at the BBC and at Mika’s management have conformed that both parties have been in discussions with the view of Mika representing the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2013. Mika’s name has been mentioned in previous years but all speculation had been surrounding Girls Aloud and Kimberley Walsh up to now.

Born Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr – but taking the stage name Mika, he was born in 1983 in Beirut to a Lebanese Mother and American Father. At the age of one the family moved to Paris and then later at the age of 9 they settled in London.

His most successful album to date has been “Life in Cartoon Motion” that has sold almost 6 million copies world-wide. He has enjoyed #1 singles across Europe with “Grace Kelly“, “Relax Take It Easy” and “Elle Me Dit” to name but a few.

Still very popular in France “Elle Me Dit” was a big hit for Mika in France and many other French-speaking regions – this could come in useful when looking for votes at Eurovision.

What could you expect from Mika – well anything as he is an expressive artist and is noted for his creativity. An inspired choice from the BBC as they certainly need to bring something fresh to Eurovision following their nostalgia attempt from last year.

We are still awaiting official conformation and a release date from the BBC but we will keep you up to date with all the breaking news as it happens.

  1. While I like Mika, I don’t know if he would be successful in ESC. The UK have been pulling out what they consider “trump cards” for the last few years with little success.

  2. It would be truly wonderful news, but I am awaiting for its confirmation: we have been said so many times that some celebraty would represent the uK, but not always what we necessarily exprect (Humbert and Blue for instance). Mika would be a real current celebrity, still very successful in France for instance.
