#BIRTHDAY: 6 Apr – Maria Rådsten from Sweden is 60
Our friends in Sweden sometimes get a bad rap for sending the same sort of over-produced stuff to Eurovision year after year. Yes, it sometimes pays dividends, and they are one of the few countries that seem to ‘get’ Eurovision.
But they can put in more individualistic stuff when they want. Like in 2025. Or, as in the song co-sung by today’s birthday girl Ingela Maria Kristina Rådsten-Ekman, aka Maria Rådsten. As part of the trio One More Time. This wasn’t over-produced – it was a delightful song written by a son of ABBA legend Peter Grönvall. And it went and finished third in 1996. This was after winning the audio pre-selection. As Swedish songs go, this writer thinks this is the pinnacle of their Eurovision œuvre. Go on, tell us what’s better then ‘Den vilda’?
