ORF, the Austrian national broadcaster, have already attracted cities wishing to host the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, following JJ’s victory in Basel.
Vienna have expressed interest in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time. The Großer Festsaal der Wiener Hofburg hosted in 1967, while the Wiener Stadthalle hosted in 2015. Michael Ludwig, the Mayor of Vienna, had the following to say:
“A great moment for our country – and a wonderful opportunity for Vienna. Vienna is ready to be Europe’s stage again this time.”
If Vienna is selected as the host city, the Wiener Stadthalle wants to host the Contest once again. The venue, which was opened in 1958, underwent a multi-million Euro renovation ahead of the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest, enabling 13,500 people to attend the contest live. The Wiener Stadthalle had the following to say:
“The Vienna Stadthalle is still one of the leading event locations in Europe – and we are of course ready to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 at the highest technical level.”
While Vienna is interested in hosting the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, neither Klagenfurt or Salzburg want to bid as host city. Klagenfurt has acknowledged that it lacks a potential venue to host the contest, while Salzburg states it does not have the availability at the Salzburg Arena to host and believes its venue would be too small.
