
Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s March 20th:
Saturday 20th March 2004
On this day in 2004, the 44th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Lena Philipsson took victory with “Det gör ont” and 232 points. At the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, Lena finished 5th, with 170 points.
Saturday 20th March 1965
On this day in 1965, the 10th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Naples, Italy. Ireland debuted, while Sweden returned. Luxembourg took victory with France Gall performing “Poupée de cire, poupée de son” and 32 points.
