#JESC21: EBU Working On A United Kingdom Participation

During the recent 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest press conference in Rotterdam, it was asked whether or not the EBU were working on all the Big Five countries to participate in the Contest this year. Martin Österdahl, the Executive Supervisor of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, simply replied with “Yes”.

Previously in 2018, during the winner’s press conference in Minsk, Jon Ola Sand, the previous Executive Supervisor, had the following to say on the matter after Wales made their debut:

“If the BBC would like to join the contest, they will reach out to the whole of the UK, and for that reason, they will have priority.”

Wales have only participated in the 2018 and 2019 Contests, before withdrawing due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Before S4C took on the Welsh participation, ITV participated on behalf of the whole of the United Kingdom between 2003 and 2005.
