He’s back – James’ nephew and Eurovision Ireland’s youngest contributor, 6 year-old Jack is taking a look at the rest of the songs taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019! After giving us his thoughts on songs heading to Junior Eurovision in Minsk last year, we were keen to invite Jack back for the adult’s contest to see what he makes of the songs heading to Tel Aviv.

He’s already had a listen to the songs taking part in the first half of Semi Final 1 and second half of Semi Final 1, as well as the first half of Semi Final 2 – so now it’s time for the last songs from the semis!

As it’s far too early for rehearsal footage and live versions of all songs aren’t readily available yet, Jack watched the official videos or National Final performances of this year’s entries with James.

As always, here are some of his unfiltered, observations and comments –

CROATIA – THE DREAM

Umm… as far as I like it, there’s one thing that’s wrong… there’s too much detail in his voice… he’s too loud…

MALTA – CHAMELEON

*starts dancing as soon as the music starts* I LOVE IT!! *face goes wild with excitement and bops all the way through the song* If I could score it out of 100, I’d give it 1000! (Awww…)

LITHUANIA – RUN WITH THE LIONS

He sounds like a girl… it’s not even a Millwall lion (yes, Jack’s a football fan…)

RUSSIA – SCREAM

So… is he basically getting chased by wolves? (Yes, in the video) I love the music! I think it’s too good! He’s out done himself (Jack remembers You Are The Only One, it’s one of his favourites!)

ALBANIA – KTHEJU TOKËS

I don’t like the video… it’s all on fire!! THE FLAMES! THE FLAMES!!! I don’t really like anything about it… *leaves room* (James fetches him back, we’ve got more songs yet!!)

NORWAY – SPIRIT IN THE SKY

*gets up and dances wildly – then pulls Oma up for a dance too!* (So I take it you like this one Jack?) *Jack is enthralled and flossing too much to answer!* I just love it!! I love the way he (Fred Buljo) is singing!!

THE NETHERLANDS – ARCADE

*Jack thinks about things for moment, then mutes the TV… then leaves the room and actually starts doing HOMEWORK rather than listening!!* (Well that’s a rather damning review, isn’t it?)

NORTH MACEDONIA – PROUD

I don’t think it’s very good… first of all, she looks grey (they’re all wearing dark colours Jack!) I don’t like it… *shrugs*

AZERBAIJAN – TRUTH

I like his voice… *yawns and rubs eyes* (Think it might be bed time, mister)

But before you do, let’s rank the songs! After looking at all the last of the songs taking part in the 2nd Semi Final, Jack ranks them like this:

We’d like to remind everyone reading that if you’ve taken offence to anything said about your favourites, these are only Jack’s opinions and he is a child – so don’t take it so seriously!

So there you have it, Jack has listened to all the songs fighting for a spot in the Grand Final of Eurovision 2019! Now I’ve already been asked if Jack is coming to Israel, but sadly he’s got school so won’t be joining us on the ground in Tel Aviv. But fear not – we’ll be sure to keep him updated and ask him for his thoughts as we go along!
