He’s back – and as brutally honest as ever! It’s James’ nephew and Eurovision Ireland’s youngest contributor, 6 year-old Jack!
After giving us his thoughts on songs heading to Junior Eurovision in Minsk last year, we were keen to invite Jack back for the adult’s contest to see what he makes of the songs heading to Tel Aviv.
As it’s far too early for rehearsal footage and live versions of all songs aren’t readily available yet, Jack watched the official videos of this year’s entries with James. Here are some of his original and unfiltered thoughts on the songs performing in the first half of the 1st Semi Final this May – the rest will follow in the coming weeks!
BELARUS – LIKE IT
It’s OK… but they could have at least stopped doing the same dance over and over again…
CYPRUS – REPLAY
She’s only got her knickers and bra on!!! I like the music, it’s OK but she’s showing off too much and most of it’s about her sex! *James faints*
CZECH REPUBLIC – FRIEND OF A FRIEND
*Seem to struggle looking for words* I give it a 6 because it’s not perfect… he’s singing in a train station, and that’s a strange place to sing… they’re a little bit good…
FINLAND – LOOK AWAY
I don’t like it… there’s someone playing the keyboard and someone’s standing on top of a box doing a strange dance…
HUNGARY – AZ ÉN APÁM
*sits very quietly… think he’s trying to work out what’s being said* (So what do you think Jack?) *Jack curls up in a ball, covers his ears and says he’s playing dead…* (Ooops… Sorry Joci! James still loves the song!)
MONTENEGRO – HEAVEN
I really like this one, I like that it’s in nature and I like going out and about. I like the blonde girl singing *sits and actually pays attention to the whole song* It’s my favourite!
POLAND – FIRE OF LOVE (PALI SIĘ)
*starts clapping along and rocking head* If I could give it 100 out of 100, I would! I really like it, they’re saying words that match (repetition) and they’re rhyming. But the thing I don’t like is it’s in black and white.
SERBIA – KRUNA
*sits there chewing hand and going ‘hmmmm’* she needs to add texture to it (??? Huh? James pushes for more) She needs to do more dancing. She’s doing a little bit but she should do more.
SLOVENIA – SEBI
It sounds strange… if I’m going to be honest, I’d give it a 2… I don’t like it… *thumbs down* It could have been better but… (doesn’t finish sentence)
Well! After watching these 8 songs, Jack ranked them like this:-
1st – MONTENEGRO
2nd – POLAND
3rd – CZECH REPUBLIC
4th – BELARUS
5th – CYPRUS
6th – SERBIA
7th – FINLAND
8th – SLOVENIA
9th – HUNGARY
We’d like to remind everyone reading that if you’ve taken offence to anything said about your favourites, these are only Jack’s opinions and he is a child – so don’t take it so seriously!
It’s bedtime now, but Jack will be back soon to give us more of his unique and insightful perspective on the songs heading to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019!!

I love how brutally honest kids are , my 3 years old granddaughter is the same 😀 . I howled with laughter over what Jack said about Cyprus and Belarus ( he is so right about the repetitive dancing ! 😀 )
