Eurovision 2018

#JUNIORJURER – Eurovision Ireland asks a 6 Year Old what they think of the Junior Eurovision 2018 songs! PART 1

JUNIOR JURY

Year after year, Eurovision Ireland gives you its views of songs heading to Eurovisions and Junior Eurovisions across the continent. But as it’s children who participate in Junior Eurovision and arguably the contest is aimed at a younger crowd, we thought who better to ask than its intended audience!

So this is where James’ nephew Jack comes in. Jack is 6 years old, loves dinosaurs and (in no small part due to his uncle) the Eurovision Song Contest! After he was told that Junior Eurovision will be this weekend, he was so excited and couldn’t wait to have a listen and share his thoughts! He said he was most looking forward to hearing Wales, Portugal, Azerbaijan and Australia, though was sad that there’s no Germany or China…

As rehearsal footage isn’t so readily available for all entries just yet, Jack watched the official videos of this year’s JESC entries with James – here are some of his (unfiltered!) thoughts on 10 of the entries going to Minsk:

UKRAINE – SAY LOVE – DARINA KRASNOVETSKA

*tilts head for the first bit, figuring out it’s in Ukrainian, then starts flossing franticly at the chorus * It says love and I like it!

PORTUGAL – GOSTO DE TUDO (JÁ NÃO GOSTO DE NADA) – RITA LARANJEIRA (2)

Is there any chance of there being some boys in this contest? *thumbs down* I don’t like it – I don’t like the sound… what is she even saying?

KAZAKHSTAN – ÓZIŃE SEN – DANELIYA TULESHOVA (7)

*bops head along to the opening chords* How old is she? (James checks, Daneliya is 12) I thought she was a grown up because of how big she is. *thumbs up* She’s a good singer!

ALBANIA – BARBIE – EFI GJIKA

*bounces along to the music* I know this song already, and I like it (James suspects that isn’t entirely true….)

RUSSIA – UNBREAKABLE – ANNA FILIPCHUK

It makes me happy… happy happy happy… *chants happy for next 2 minutes* Why do they keep playing with that piece of glass? Don’t they know it might cut you?

THE NETHERLANDS – SAMEN – MAX & ANNE

Medium… I sort of like it… but… it’s just not for me… *shrugs*

AZERBAIJAN – I WANNA BE LIKE YOU – FIDAN HUSEYNOVA

Out of 10, I would give it a 5. Because I like it a little bit, it’s just I like sandy beaches, not rocky ones…

BELARUS – TIME – DANIEL YASTREMSKI

I like the place the video is in, it looks really cool. I like the song too because it’s all detail and that… they don’t have any mistakes…

IRELAND – IOU – TAYLOR HYNES

*sits transfixed watching the video, then giggles frantically* That bit really made me laugh!!! (He means Niamh and Ryan and the David Essex LP!) Why is he saying “I know you”? They’re his mum and dad! It’s a yes because he flosses!

SERBIA – SVET – BOJANA RADOVANOVIĆ

*watches Bojana and her friends stop cars in the road* That was dangerous, they could have got run over! I think it’s good, I like the song and the video, I like where it is (Uncle James lived in Belgrade, wonder if he remembers that…)

So after hearing 10 of the 20 entries for this year’s contest, Jack’s Top 10 from these entries looks like this:-

1st: SERBIA

2nd: UKRAINE

3rd: IRELAND

4th: KAZAKHSTAN

5th: AZERBAIJAN

6th: BELARUS

7th: ALBANIA

8th: RUSSIA

9th: PORTUGAL

10th: THE NETHERLANDS

It’s bedtime now, but Jack will be back later in the week to give us more of his perspective on Junior Eurovision, and we’ll be sure to ask him who he thinks will win!
