Over the weekend, there have been a number of rumours circulating over Bulgaria’s future in the Eurovision Song Contest. After a withdrawal from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest last year, the inevitable has now happened and the nation has withdrawn from the Eurovision Song Contest.
While Bulgaria took two years out in 2014 and 2015, this latest withdrawal sounds quite final. Financially is it unfeasible for BNT and the whole of their Eurovision team – including Head of Delegation, Joana Levieva, were all laid off at the weekend.
Bulgaria only made the final once in their initial period of participation back in 2007, but made the final every year since on their return in 2016. Kristian Kostov achieved their best placing in 2017 with a 2nd place.
