“Eurovision – The Movie” could be coming your way shortly. June 30th to July 3rd saw the “Paris Cinema film festival” take place. This festival connects international filmmakers with French and International producers, sales agents and distributors.
Belgian director Bavo Defurne’s movie script for the movie “Souvenirs “- the tale of a fortysomething, former Eurovision Song Contest star who is encouraged by her 18-year-old boyfriend to stage a comeback – has proven to be a very popular project at this year’s festival.
Defurne is best known for his short films and features that have been centered around exploring gay love and loss. His most notable work to date has been the critically acclaimed “North Sea Texas”.
“I don’t want to only make films about gay love. This is the tale of a relationship of an older woman and a younger man – which is still something of a taboo today,” said Defurne.
The cult Portland band “Pink Martini” is collaborating on the Eurovision Song Contest-inspired soundtrack along with Adriano Cominotto, who wrote the soundtrack for North Sea Texas. This trio has proven to be popular with French film financiers. The band “Pink Martini” has a big following in France. What an apt name for a band for a tale of Eurovision.
We will keep you updated on more news of “Souvenirs” as we hear them.
