#STORYOFMYLIFE – Day Five with Richard from EI

In this series, we’ll be talking to someone and asking them to pick five songs (over five days) that mean something to them. These may not be their top five songs of all time – merely songs that attach to a specific memory or time in their life.

Richard from Eurovision Ireland continues this series. What’s his final choice, and what’s the story behind it?

Following Ukraine’s victory in 2022, it was clear they were unable to host following the Russian invasion. The decision was made by the EBU to give first refusal to the United Kingdom, following Sam Ryder’s 2nd place, with Spaceman.

We were sceptical on arrival how Liverpool would embrace the Eurovision Song Contest. For that fortnight, I was proud to be British. Not only did Liverpool embrace British culture, but Ukrainian culture was also fully embraced – something I am proud of.

That’s Richard’s final choice. Come back on Monday for the start of another five memorable songs. If you have five songs that really mean something to you, drop us a line with them and the stories behind them, and you could feature soon.
