#STORYOFMYLIFE – Day Two with John from EI

In this series, we’ll be talking to someone and asking them to pick five songs (over five days) that mean something to them. These may not be their top five songs of all time – merely songs that attach to a specific memory or time in their life.

John from Eurovision Ireland opens this series. What’s his second choice, and what’s the story behind it?

Tell Me! – August & Telma

This choice might seem an odd one. Back in 2000, I was asked by the UK and Ireland’s biggest fan club at the time – Eurovision Network – to have one of their accreditations for the contest at Globen in Stockholm. I of course jumped at the chance. The gig then was mainly the written word. So I and my colleague set out to write about the week as it happened, and interview the performers on the way. There was no video then, so armed with a Dictaphone we taped interviews and then typed them up afterwards.

The first interview I got was August & Telma, somewhere within the hotel attached to Globen. I was very nervous – Would I ask daft questions? Would they understand me? Well they were utterly charming, and we chatted about favourite songs and their hopes for Stockholm and beyond. So because they were my first interview, here’s August & Telma.

If you have five songs that really mean something to you, drop us a line with them and the stories behind them, and you could feature soon.
