Another pair of Austrian cities has withdrawn their joint interest in hosting the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.
The two cities of Linz and Wels have officially announced their withdrawal from the race to jointly host the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The cities had the following to say:
“The technical assessment of the hall’s infrastructure revealed that some specific requirements, particularly regarding ceiling heights, suspension points, and stage technology, could not be fully met. These conditions are currently only fully met at one location in Austria.
The decision to apply was made based on a thorough cost-benefit analysis conducted in consultation with the mayor of Wels, Dr. Andreas Rabl, the mayor of Linz, Dietmar Prammer, and the Governor of Upper Austria Thomas Stelzer. The requirements and thus the costs have increased significantly, in some cases to an unreasonably high level , compared to 2015.”
The following cities and towns have stated that they are examining or will bid to host the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest:
- Innsbruck
- St Pölten
- Vienna
