The EBU, the European Broadcasting Union and SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster, hosted the Head of Delegations meeting today in Malmo, ahead of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.
As is tradition, Sweden had their position drawn for the Grand Final. Andrew Cartmell, the Executive Producer of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, drew them in first position and therefore opening the Grand Final. Sweden, along with the rest of the Big 5, will also perform their songs in full during the Semi Finals and amongst the competing participating countries too.
In terms of the voting in the Grand Final, this will commence just before Sweden takes to the stage – a format used during the 2010 & 2011 Contests. For the Rest of the World voting, this will open 24 hours prior to the Grand Final – a similar system used at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Iceland have also confirmed they will not withdraw from the Contest following the EBU approving the Israeli entry. RÚV, the Icelandic national broadcaster, have confirmed that Hera Björk will represent the nation with “Scared of Heights” – despite one of the song-writers, Ásdís María Viðarsdóttir, stepping away from the team travelling to Malmo.
