The Norwegian TV broadcaster NRK has today announced some major changes to the format of next year’s Norwegian Melodi Grand Prix, to choose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 to take place in Liverpool, United Kingdom. The number of Heats has been reduced from five to three with a Grand Final taking place in Trondheim Spektrum on 4th February . There will be no acts pre qualified to the Final and no Second chance round either. There will be no duels within the heats as in recent previous years and the voting will start once all seven songs in each Heat have been performed. The three artists receiving the most votes in each heat will advance to the Final in Trondheim . The three Heats will take place in Nydalen , Oslo on the following dates :

Heat 1 -14th January

Heat 2-21st January

Heat 3 -28th January

Final-4th February.

Stig Karlsen, Head of Music, had this to say :

”  There were several good reasons for the solution with pre-qualified acts, but MGP is in constant development. We are now going for a competition model that is easier to understand, and where all the artists compete with the same starting point. More is at stake for everyone from day one.”

MGP will be hosted by Arian Engebø and Stian “Staysman” Thorbjørnsen .Arian is a radio host and Stian is an experienced musician and TV host , who has also competed twice in Melodi Grand Prix .

Last year MGP was won by Subwoolfer with their catchy song ” Give that wolf a banana ” . The acts competing in MGP 2023 will be announced on 4th January.
