
On August 12th, the SHORT LIST for the 2023 Host City was revealed. While we donāt know where the Eurovision Song Contest will be held next year until the Autumn, we thought weād look back at the cities that have already hosted the Contest.
Dublin
Dublin hosted the 1971, 1981, 1988, 1994, 1995 and 1997 Eurovision Song Contest, in Ireland. In 1997, the Contest was held at the Point Theatre (now the 3Arena) and was won by the United Kingdom. Katrina and the Waves performed āLove Shine a Lightā, taking victory with 227 points. Ireland was represented by Marc Roberts, who performed āMysterious Womanā. He finished in 2nd place, with 157 points.
Dusseldorf
Dusseldorf hosted the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, in Germany. The Contest was held at the Esprit Arena (now the Merker Spiel-Arena) and was won by Azerbaijan. Ell & Nikki performed āRunning Scaredā, taking victory with 221 points. Ireland was represented by Jedward, who performed āLipstickā. They finished in 8th place, with 119 points.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh hosted the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, in the United Kingdom. The Contest was held at the Usher Hall and was won by Luxembourg. Vicky Leandros performed āAprĆØs toiā, taking victory with 128 points. Ireland was represented by Sandie Jones, who performed āCeol an GhrĆ”ā. She finished in 15th place, with 72 points.
Frankfurt-am-Main
Frankfurt-am-Main hosted the 1957 Eurovision Song Contest, in Germany (then known as West Germany). The Contest was held at the GroĆer Sendesaal des Hessischen Rundfunks (now the HR Sendesaal) and was won by The Netherlands. Corry Brokken performed āNet als toenā, taking victory with 31 points.
Gothenburg
Gothenburg hosted the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest, in Sweden. The Contest was held at the Scandinavium and was won by Norway. Bobbysocks! performed āLa det swingeā, taking victory with 123 points. Ireland was represented by Maria Christian, who performed āWait Until the Weekend Comesā. She finished in 6th place, with 91 points.
