The inaugural ABU Song Contest was due to take place in Qingdao, China, in 2019 – before been delayed to last year and then again to this year. The Coronavirus pandemic is now been monitored to see whether or not the Contest can take place in 2021.
Mr Naghata, the Asian Broadcasting Union Director of Programming, had the following to say:
“We were not able to deliver this event due to the COVID situation in the region and in our host country i.e. China. We are currently monitoring the situation of COVID-19 in our region to see whether we can run this event in 2021.”
