Australia Confirmed as contestants for Eurovision 2015

Australia are officially confirmed as Eurovision 2015 contestants and will be sending an Act to Vienna 2015.

Remember that we told you this story back in early December last year – See HERE.

It has been confirmed that SBS (Australian National Broadcaster) has been invited by the EBU to participate in the 60th Eurovision song contest taking place in Vienna.

This is to add to the celebrations of the contest and also to recognise the long-standing love affair that Australia has had with Eurovision for over 30 years.

This is a once off invitation to SBS and Australia to be a contestant in the Eurovision song contest.

They will be a direct finalist and will join the Big 5 and hosts Austria in the Saturday night show.

Australia will vote in both Semi-Finals along as in the the Grand Final. A jury will be used like the rest of Europe and options on public televoting are being explored.

If Australia do win the contest, then they will co-produce the 2016 show with another broadcaster in Europe.

This is certainly going to get people talking and also have Australian’s up in the early hours watching the LIVE broadcast of the show.

So who would we like to see at Eurovision representing Australia? Do you think this is a good idea? What other country would you like to see at Eurovision – even as a once off?

Bring on the Kylie Minogue for Vienna Rumours 😉

  2. If it’s true, I think it’s very unfair to all the other countries who have to go through the semis. I don’t have a problem with them taking part, but let them go into the semi finals……why should they be treated any different?…….and I think a lot of people will feel the same way….could cause a lot of problems for the EBU

  3. That’s fabulous news, a have a friend in Australia who is a huge ESC fan! I’ll tell her that she’ll have to prepare for some sleepless nights in May 🙂 BTW how do they intend to prevent voters from mixing up Austria and Australia?
