Exclusive – Eurovision Ireland has been sent the first International broadcast of Iceland’s 2012 Eurovision singer Greta Salóme’s new song ‘Lifnar aftur við’ or ‘Coming Back To Life’.
Greta has put down both her violin and Jonsi since Baku and has picked up a Guitarist – Gunnar Hilmarsson. The song is a charming country/folk inspired song that is simple yet stunning at the same time.
Salóme is the composer and lyricist of the song which explains her personal attachment in the performance. The song has a gentle lilt to it that the guitar and accordion accompany beautifully. It is a song on first listen to that you can ‘Never Forget’ it.
Personally I think Icelandic is a beautiful language that certainly enhances a ballad of this quality. Greta’s vocals are as distinctive on ‘Coming Back to Life’ as they were back in 2012.
With Eurovision finally embracing a County/Americana song this year in the form of The Common Linnets, there is certainly a desire for more songs like ‘The Calm After The Storm’ and for me ‘Lifnar aftur við’ delivers even more on this score.
The video is sympathetic to the authentic sound of the song and proves that you can shoot a video with simple lighting and camera shots that compliment and retain the essence of a song. The video was produced by the Icelandic film and video company ‘Silent’ that have a long-standing love of Eurovision.
‘Coming Back to Life’ sees a very welcomed return of the beautiful Greta Salóme and is my recommendation of the week.
Just one question Greta – why didn’t you keep this for Eurovision 2015?
