Bulgaria continue their debate on participation at Eurovision 2014. This time they take the discussion to National Television.
The popular Sunday TV show “The Day Begins On Sunday” was the platform for the discussion on Bulgaria’s plans for Eurovision 2014. On the show were Ms Yoan Leviev-Sawyer (Head of Bulgarian delegation in 2012 and 2013), Stanislav Terziev (director of all national finals produced by BNT- Bulgarian National Television), DJ Dian (Deep Zone, Bulgaria Eurovision 2008) and Dani Milev (Bulgarian composer of their 2006 Eurovision entry “Let Me Cry”).
Would Bulgaria participate at Eurovision 2014?
Ms Joana Levieva – Sawyer said that the Bulgarian Government had cut their budget to BNT (Bulgarian National Broadcaster) for 2014, due to the economic challenges facing the country. Other exits from the contest – like Croatia and Cyprus – brought BNT to their decision back on November 22nd. She did hope that Bulgaria could return to the contest in 2015
Mr Stanislav Terziev however said that the flexibility on the entry date to the contest had provided an opportunity for the country to seek alternative funding for Bulgaria’s participation at Eurovision 2014. He suggested that they should seek sponsorship from a telecommunications company or collaborate with an external producer (like Greece did with MAD TV in 2013).
This sentiment and possible solution was echoed by Dani Milev and DJ Dian. They stressed that the Global Audience of Eurovision and the attention it receives from International Record Companies, makes it an important event for Bulgaria’s artists and musicians to be seen and heard at.
Sponsorship is the only way that BNT can see Bulgaria competing at Eurovision 2014.
