Bob Allison, one half of The Allisons – the UK’s entrant to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 – has died aged 72.

The Allisons finished second with the song “Are Your Sure?” at the contest in 1961 behind Luxembourg’s “Nous les Amoureux” (We the Lovers), sung by Jean-Claude Pascal.

Despite not winning the contest their song charted at #2 in the UK and spent 16 weeks in the Top 40.

It was the first UK Eurovision song to make the Top 10 in the music charts.

Our condolences go to Bob Allison’s family from the team at Eurovision Ireland

  1. Personally, I think the Allisons were two to three years ahead of their time – 1961 was still heavily influenced by 1950s ballads and this is one of the first ‘pop’ records in Eurovision. Buddy Holly-esque in its presentation, fully deserved second and really should have been first but maybe as a Brit, I’m biased…
