Who will represent Iceland at Eurovision 2013? Well the country took a step towards deciding that question tonight with the first Semi Final of Söngvakeppnin 2013.

6 acts performed tonight

  1. Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir – Þú – (Composer and Lyrics: Davíð Sigurgeirsson)
  2. Magni Ásgeirsson – Ekki líta undan – (Composer: Sveinn Rúnar Sigurðsson Lyrics: Ingibjörg Gunnarsdóttir)
  3. Svavar Knútur Kristinsson & Hreindís Ylva Garðarsdóttir Hólm – Lífið snýst – (Composer: Hallgrímur Óskarsson Lyrics: Hallgrímur Óskarsson and Svavar Knútur Kristinsson)
  4. Edda Viðarsdóttir – Sá sem lætur hjartað ráða för – (Composer: Þórir Úlfarsson Lyrics: Kristján Hreinsson)
  5. Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson – Ég á líf  – (Composers & Lyrics : Örlygur Smári and Pétur Örn Guðmundsson)
  6. Birgitta Haukdal – Meðal andanna – (Composers: Birgitta Haukdal, Sylvía Haukdal Brynjarsdóttir and Jonas Gladnikoff Lyrics: Birgitta Haukdal, Sylvía Haukdal Brynjarsdóttir, Michael James Down and Primoz Poglajen)

After the Jury and Public votes were combined the 3 lucky acts that progressed to the final were (and in no particular order)

  • Birgitta Haukdal – “Meðal andanna”
  • Svavar Knútur Kristinsson & Hreindís Ylva Garðarsdóttir Hólm – “Lífið snýst”
  • Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson – Ég á líf

The shock for some tonight will be that Yohanna failed to qualify for the National Final again but the standard was very high in this Semi Final.

  1. Yohanna might be as well off, return acts don’t seem to do very well second or even third time around maybe people feel you have had your chance? Good to see there was no favouritism. I would love to see Iceland (Malta or Cyprus too) winning they have being fighting the good fight for years.
