Well as you will know since 10:30 CET the Belgian artist Roberto Bellarosa is performing live on radio and a live video web link. The 3 songs in contention are

  • “Be heroes”
  • “Reste Toi”
  • “Love kills

Love Kills

Here is Roberto’s performance this morning. This is a pop song and the range of the song seemed to be giving Roberto problems. It is a very repetitive verse so that when it comes the chorus there doesn’t seem to be any change to the song. I appreciate that it is early in the morning and Roberto’s vocals are not fully warmed up but this was unfortunately out of tune. I could see this being lost in Malmö

Be Heroes

A lot of this going about at the moment – that is good little electro pop 80’s songs. We have seen some in Lithuania and Estonia so this could be the sound of Malmö. A good song and Roberto’s vocals – though not perfect – were better than “Love Kills”. It has a good change of key – which we all love at Eurovision!! I like this song and could see it with a good stage production sneaking into the finals at Malmö – Which Belgium would love to do

“Reste Toi”

This is a song that I could see Olly Muhrs performing on his album. Not strong enough to be a main single but good enough to be on the album. It has a 60/70’s light ska feel to it. You know the sound – a heavy piano chord playing throughout, some good guitars and drums to back it up. As it is the only non-English entry this could be the one the audience select. It has grown on me.

THE RESULTS ARE IN

The winner is “LOVE KILLS”

This was Roberto’s personal favourite.

On the reprise Roberto’s voice was much better on this run through of the song. The break down beat that takes place in the song lends itself to a great visual effect if Belgian TV gets it right. It is very clear that any loss in vocals will be picked up by the public and the jury very easily as it is not an easy song to sing due to the range. There is nowhere to hide with a bad note here.

One a special note – 5 million people tuned into the web link – WOW

Bonne Chance Roberto – I think you just might get into the final if presented correctly

  1. I think it is okay, you can’t really tell by this performance though. At least he’s got a few months to improve his vocal performance.
