#BIRTHDAY: 3 Apr – Egon Egemann from Switzerland is 71
They always say that the one thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about. And being talked about can include earning yourself a nickname.
Back in 1990, when the world was a more innocent place, we found ourselves in socialist-ish Yugoslavia. A highly neutral country that sang there was Switzerland, represented by today’s birthday boy Egon Egemann )he’s actually Austrian). He earned himself the name ‘the singing duvet’. If you watch the video you can probably see why. Never apart from his Geiger/violin, he sang and played his way to 11th place. By 1998, he’d dropped the duvet and came back for his adopted Switzerland. As we don’t really need to go into how they did that year, we’re sticking firmly to his duvet day.
