#BIRTHDAY: Silvester Belt from Lithuania is 28 today
What’s your favourite language? Is it a smooth Latin-based one? A direct Germanic one? And does it feature often in our favourite TV show?
Our friends in Lithuania have, more often than not, used English as their medium of song. But three of the last four have been in their native language. Bravo to them I say. And it’s paid dividends. Today’s birthday boy Silvester Belt (né Silvestras Beltė) – yes, he with the interesting nose adornment – took his bouncy little number through his semi-final, finishing fourth, and then couldn’t quite make the left-hand side of the scoreboard on that warm May evening in Malmö. But his “banger” did get the attention of many Eurovision fans. So much so he was invited to be an interval artist a year later. Does that mean he could come back. Let’s see what LRT come up with. And whether it will be in Lithuanian.
