Kronen Zeitung, the Austrian national media, have revealed why Vienna was chosen for the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.
Two factors were decisive: In Tyrol, the artists wouldn’t have had their dressing rooms and preparation area (Green Room) in the Olympiahalle and transporting them back and forth would have been inconvenient. Furthermore, while hotel capacity in Innsbruck is available, it’s spread out or even located outside the city.
Furthermore, ORF’s financial outlay will be reduced by hosting the event in Vienna. After all, ORF Director General Roland Weissmann’s motto for this ESC is: “Economical, but spectacular!” The decision-making committee spent four weeks working on the decision, visiting the cities twice. Both cities presented convincing concepts and Weißmann expressly thanked the city of Innsbruck for the application and its strong commitment.
