DR, the Danish national broadcaster, have revealed the updated flag policies, ahead of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest, in Basel.
DR have stated that flag policies have been updated for both fans and delegations. DR stated that while “political messages should be avoided”, the host country Switzerland “places a high value on freedom of expression”. For fans, the updated policy states that anyone attending the shows in Basel will be allowed to bring in any flag they want, so long as it complies with Swiss law.
For delegations, the updated policy states that participants may only bring their own country’s official flag to any Eurovision 2025 event, including the live shows – including only one flag in the flag parade, which will be provided by SRG SSR, the host broadcaster.
Flags that could be considered as violating Swiss law include:
- Flags with racist and discriminatory content, including symbols that incite hatred or violence
- Flags that may be considered offensive or defamatory
- Flags with symbols of banned terrorist organisations
