SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster, have revealed the final inductee of the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame, ahead of the Final, on Saturday 8th March, in Stockholm.
The iconic “Genom eld och vatten (Through Fire & Water)”, which can be viewed below, has been selected as the final inductee into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame, for 2025. Behind the song are the authors Stina Jadelius-Engelbrecht and Mårten Eriksson, who are now inducted into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame. Stina Jadelius-Engelbrecht had the following to say:
“That “Genom eld och vatten” is selected into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame is super fun and a great honour. Mårten and I started creating music together on a songwriting course, which resulted in a folk-pop project including Sarek’s version of “Genom eld och vatten”. I have understood that the mix between pop and folk music-inspired melodies, as well as Mårten’s direct and sing-along-friendly lyrics, are two strong reasons for the song’s success. The fact that “Genom eld och vatten” has been covered by several sports clubs, that the 90s in particular took it with them from their childhood and into their student festivities and after works, as well as other artists’ fine interpretations and versions of it also affect the song’s fine upswing.”
As part of the Hall of Fame presentation, Medina will perform “Genom eld och vatten”, with a 2025 twist. Medina had the following to say:
“We are so excited to be back in Mello! It is truly a curse and a blessing to be part of the final without competing. The fact that we also get the honour of interpreting “Genom eld och vatten” makes things so much better. In addition to the fact that the song is a Swedish cultural heritage, the lyrics are not far from our relationship to each other. We will do a really powerful number.”
