#BIRTHDAY: Maxine from the Netherlands is 54 today

Our friends in the Netherlands have had five wins. Yes, five. And they’ve had lots of non-wins too. It lots of guises. Soloists, groups singing in imaginary languages. And, of course, the odd duo.

Today’s birthday girl Maxine (née Gonny Buurmeester) became a pal of Franklin Brown and together they got through an audio preselection in 1996. That meant they travelled all the way to Oslo – at NOS’s expense naturally – and did their stuff on a stage based around oil. There was a bit of a height difference between the two pals, but it didn’t stop them finishing seventh. That was a nice finish as they had sat out the previous year. Since that time, Maxine has gone a bit quiet, but at least she’s kept herself out of trouble with the law.
