Following financial difficulties, the Drèents Liedtiesfestival, the selection process for both the Regio Songfestival and the SUNS Europe Festival, has come to an end.
Stichting REUR has announced that it is no longer financially viable to continue after fifteen years. The Province of Drenthe had allocated around 50,000 Euros per year for the next four years to support Stichting REUR, however this funding is not enough for the Contest to remain financially viable.
A spokesperson for the Province, had the following to say to RTV Drenthe:
“In the coming period, we will consider what to do about music and Drenthe. Whether a restart of the Drèents Liedtiesfestival is possible, who is the designated party for this, whether the current parties involved still want or can play a role in this: these are all questions that are currently playing a role for us and to which we do not yet have an immediate answer.”
