#Ukraine: Live Blog of Vidbir 2024 from 17.00 CET

Dobroho vechora, Yevropo, pryvit svite! Tonight, Kyiv is calling to choose their representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2024. 11 acts are competing in Ukraine’s national final, Vidbir 2024.

The winner of the Ukrainian national final and Ukraine‘s representative in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest will be determined 50% by the will of Ukrainian viewers and 50% by the jury’s vote. The jury is composed of three important figures from Ukraine’s musical industry:

Andriy Danylko / VERKA SERDUCHKA – Representative of Ukraine at Eurovision 2007
Jamala – Winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016
Serhiy Tanchynets – singer, musician, producer and leader of the rock band BEZ LIMITATIONS

Tonight’s hosts will be Timur Miroshnychenko, Julia Sanina and stand-up comedian Vasyl Baidak.

The 11 songs trying to win the golden ticket to Malmö are:

18:09 Judges critiques: You have to think about your moves. I hear Beatles and Queen in your voice. (Jamala) Maybe this time you will be the trend (Andryi). You are my inspiration in this competition. YOu are really talented. (Serhyi)

18:04 Is that a wig? I am too distracted. This sounds quite sweet and innofensive. I am sorry but I don’t see it as a winner. I do applaud his vocals though.

17:58 Judges critiques: The first part of the song reminded me of 1944. I’m sorry but I was bored(Andryi). For me, it was very predictable (Jamala). The dress is not appropriate with the message (Serhyi).

17:55 Skylerr looks amazing and I like the background with the deconstruction of the red house. However, I’m not very keen on the song. In parts sounds like from a sountrack of an action movie.

17:42 Judges critiques: I stay a huge fan (Serhyi). It’s an amazing song and it’s great you came back (Jamala). I understand why you came back. It’s a kind of rematch. I can see you among the two leaders (Andryi).

17:40 MÉLOVIN is alone on the stage delivering a pop dance song. It’s a strong entry and I think it could do well if we could have some dancers on the stage.

17:37 Song number 7: MÉLOVIN – Dreamer

17:31 Judges critiques: You have to work on coordination and unity on the stage (Andryi). It was a quality song, it’s very bright (Jamala). It’s a hit 100% (Serhyi)

17: 20 Judges critiques: It’s an amazing track but if you win, bring your rock band (Serhyi). You have a strong competitor, Maneskin (Jamala). You have an amazing temper (Andryi)

17: 17 An unexpected rock song reminding me of the sound we could hear in the 80’s rock/ grange/ glamour bands.

17:14 Song 5: Drevo – Endless chain

17:10 Judges critiques: I really believe we found a new performer on the stage. I’m not sure you’ll be amogst the leaders. (Jamala). I congratulate you (Andryi). I feel like you are a vocal coach. (Serhyi)

17:08 Trance, pop, electronic and lots of flute. I love it as it’s energetic and has a good beat to it.

17:07 Song number 4: ANKA – Палала

17:00 Judges critiques: Why send someting serious? Let’s send something silly. (Andryi) I just started to wonder about your song’s name. I disagree, Ukrainian English is at high level (Jamala); I’m not sue you are going to win (Serhyi).

16:55 Song number 3. Nazva – Slavic English

16:45 Judges critiques: It sounded like a soundtrack (Andryi), It’s poetical and full of emotions (Serhyi), I want to say thank you for your father, brother and husband who are serving in military. I see this as a powerful song (Jamala).

16:43 A song of pain and anger depicting current times. Ingret is singing her ballad in English with infused Ukranian.
