It is only a matter of days since Måneskin took victory at thew 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, but already there are 11 cities showing interest in hosting the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest. Below are the 11 cities and what their local Officials have had to say:
Florence
Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence, had the following to say:
“The city will try and host the Eurovision Song Contest, bringing Florence into contention with a number of cities across the country.”
Reggio Emilia
Luca Vecchi, Mayor of Reggio Emilia, had the following to say:
“Other councilors and I will present an official document in the Sala del Tricolore asking the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the candidacy must be presented by the local public body, to apply to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.”
Rimini
Andrea Gnassi, Mayor of Rimini, had the following to say:
“The Rimini Fiera has shown in the past that it can organise concerts with at least 10 thousand people and is served by trains and shuttles, there is a huge accommodation and service capacity: all this, and more, makes our area one of those potentially capable of hosting Eurovision 2022, like few others in Italy.”
Rome
Virginia Raggi, Mayor of Rome, had the following to say:
“Rome is proud of its people. Next year Italy will host Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Rome is the perfect stage to relaunch the challenge.”
Turin
The Mayor of Turin, had the following to say:
“We are already working on the candidacy, pending the announcement.”
Verona
Gianmarco Mazzi, Artistic Director of the Verona Arena, had the following to say:
“Never say never in life, but I want to be honest, I think it will be very difficult. Eurovision foresees crazy structures that logistically do not reconcile with our amphitheatre, it takes months of work and above all they usually choose covered locations because otherwise in case of rain it would be a disaster. Fortunately for us we have a mayor who always pushes hard on the accelerator and does everything to bring the big events to Verona so I would never say never, but it will be very difficult to see Eurovision 2022 in the Arena.”
Other Cities
Officials from Bologna, Milan, Naples, Pesaro and Sanremo have also expressed their interest over recent days too.
