
Over the course of April and May, on the lead up to the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, we will be celebrating the countries that are participating this year in Rotterdam. Today, we celebrate Cyprus.
Cyprus debuted at the Contest in 1981, in Dublin, Ireland, Island finished in sixth place with their entry “Monika”, scoring 69 points. This included one set of twelve points from Greece.
The most successful entry from Cyprus was in 2018, when the Contest took place in Lisbon, Portugal, Eleni Foureira finished in second place with her entry “Fuego”, scoring 436 points. This included six sets of jury twelve points from Belarus, Greece, Ireland, Malta, Spain and Sweden. This also included three sets of televote twelve points from Armenia, Bulgaria and Greece.
The most recent Cypriot entry was due to be in 2020, when the cancelled Contest was due to take place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Sandro Nicolas was due to represent Cyprus with his entry “Running”.
This year, Cyprus will be represented by Elena Tsagrinou with her song “El diablo”. Will Elena Tsagrinou take Cyprus to their first victory?
