BIRTHDAY: Anabela from Portugal is 43 today

It’s an all points west birthday today. Our favourite TV show regularly moves around Europe’s quarters, showing us the delights of the varied continent.

Back in 1993, the contest was in Millstreet and had never been further west. It was years before we came anywhere close again, and today’s birthday girl Anabela Braz Pires went to Ireland from mainland Europe’s most westerly country. She was a fresh-faced 16 year old, so was full of hope. She must have known about her country’s record in our favourite TV show, so was probably happy to finish 10th. It was better than average for Portugal. But she got two maxima which would mean more.
