Yes, you’ve read the headline right – Malta will no longer be using the Malta Eurovision Song Contest as their National Final. MESC has been in use since 1971, when Malta debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Instead this year, the artist representing Malta will be chosen through the local version of The X-Factor, which starts in October. It is currently unknown however, how the song will be selected for 2019.
Christabelle finished in 13th place, in the second semi final in Lisbon, with 101 points. Malta last qualified for the final back in 2016, when Ira Losco represented her nation with “Walk On Water”. Ira finished in 3rd place, with 209 points.
