We recently reported on EBU sanctions against Macedonia’s national broadcaster MRT and the potential repercussions this could have for the country taking part in Eurovision next May. Well, our friends over at ESCToday.com have contacted the EBU to ask for clarification and below is what they had to say:

“As a result of non-payment of debt, FYROM’s public service broadcaster Macedonian Radio Television (MRT) currently does not have access to the EBU’s Member services, including the Eurovision News and Sports News Exchanges, the right to broadcast specific sporting events, legal, technical and research expertise and lobbying services. MRT will also not participate in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest as things stand but will continue to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in November.”

So there you have it – as things stand, Macedonia is currently out of Eurovision 2018. Presumably, any discussions about being allowed to compete won’t be considered until the broadcaster’s debt is cleared. For now their participation in Junior Eurovision seems safe, and Mina Blažev will still sing “Dancing Through Life” in Tbilisi next month.
