Good evening all and welcome to the show and to the final of Eesti Laul 2016.

Elina and Stig start the show with a reprise of their song Goodbye to Yesterday.

Elina Stig

Wideboys

They are then interrupted by a pair of wideboy DJs with a remix of their song.

Turns out the wideboys just happen to be our hosts for the evening. Oh joy!

Hosts

We are introduced to the artists competing tonight walking throw the hall to the green room area at the front of the stage.Tartan hosts

The hosts are now on my side having changed into tartan suits at the start as they introduce the first artist Laura.

Laura – Supersonic

A good start from Laura who has been to Eurovision before but for Switzerland. A nice melodic euro pop song well presented by Laura in a very space age outfit that lights up. Might make the super final.

Laura 1

Go Away Bird – Sally

Go away 2

Go Away Bird sing Sally and its a very much a song with a heavy guitar sound but modern with it. A female lead singer with knots of hair backed by a band and backing singers. A good feel to this song and its simple and well enough presented. But does it have enough appeal for Eurovision? We shall see later.

Go Away Bird

Mick Pedaja – Seis

Mick

Mick sings a very haunting ballad indeed. Sung beautifully and presented very imaginatively. You hardly see Mick’s face as most of the time they use it to project images on it. A nice concept and a nice song. May do well.

mick 2

Grete Paia – Stories Untold

Greta

Lots of smoke and electric bulbs on stage for this moody ballad. Another great performance from Greta and this could also do well tonight if it hits the right spot with the voters. I like this one.

Greta 2

Kéa – Lonely Boy

Kea

Kea is backed by a band and some singers and this song has a slight country feel to it with a bit of modern electro feel to it too. I really like it as it builds slowly then explodes. A really good performance from Kea and it seemed to go down well with the crowd in the hall.

Kea 2

Jüri Pootsmann – Play

Justa 2

Juri is a good singer and easy on the eye. He sings a song that has lots of mood changes from ballad to uptempo. I like the contrast and I am now rating this song rather higher than I first thought I would, it is after all written by Stig Rasta who represented Estonia last year.

Justa

Kati Laev & Noorkuu – Kaugel Sinust

Kati

Kati sings this song in Estonian and the style and language gives this a very old style Eurovision feel to the song, but in a good way. She is accompanied by Noorkuu who are 5 gents in suits who are mostly with their backs to the crowd. Another good performance but will it be good enough for the Super Final?

Kati 2

Cartoon feat. Kristel Aaslaid – Immortality

Cartoon

Cartoon 1

WOW just wow. That is all I have to say about this. Modern sounds. Modern concept of production. The whole performance is virtually done by a cartoon on a screen. It only  opens up near the end to reveal the singer as part of the whole look of this. I loved this so fresh and different. Crowd just loved it.

Cartoon 2

Cartoon 4

Meisterjaan – Parmupillihullus

Pampel

Wow no. 2 tonight. Another brilliant performance and great song. It is wacky it is weird and I just love it. Would love to see this at Eurovision as it would stand out in a big way.  I love different and so does Estonia it would seem.

Pampel 2

I Wear* Experiment – Patience

Eye

I perfectly decent song to finish the night nothing wrong with it at all but it does not have the stand out needed tonight and do not think it will get to the next stage.

eye 2

So that’s all the songs folks and while we chat to the green room I will give you my predictions below.

ANDREW’S PREDICTION FOR TOP  3

Ok here is my prediction for the Top 3 to go through to the Super Final vote.

Cartoon feat. Kristel Aaslaid for the concept and originality alone also it is a good song.

Meisterjaan for another good performance and an original different sounding song.

Mick Pedaja for a very haunting sound and another good performance concept.

Although I have to also give the nod to every other artist tonight, no bad songs and ten great performances well done Estonia and well done Eesti Laul.

We now go onto a 35 minute break to go to the news and allow people to vote.

See you back here again soon for the Super Final and result.

#MagicMic Award

#MagicMic - Sascha Frasz Graphic Design

My Magic Mic award goes to Cartoon featuring Kristel Aaslaid with Immortality. A wonderful imaginative presentation and performance never before seen on the Eurovision stage. A story told by a cartoon projected onto screens with the only artist seen on stage being Kristel and only in the last minute of the song.  Well done indeed.

RESULT

So we are back for the results section after a 35 minute break for Estonian news weather and sport.

We get another run through the songs for the voting numbers.

Jury results coming in and they are all over the place. Mick Pedaja doing the best so far.

All Jury votes in and here is the result.

Jury vote

Superfinalists are Cartoon feat. Kristel and Laura and Juri Pootsmann.
