AZERBAIJAN – 7 Acts we would like to see represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision

Azerbaijan will internally select for Eurovision 2016 so we thought it best to look at some Azeri acts that could represent them in Stockholm.

We have 7 acts for you and they are brought to you by our guest writer Orkhan Aghayev from Azerbaijan. So let’s take a look at his wishlist of artists for Eurovision 2016.

#1 – Elly

Her motherland is Azerbaijan but she now lives and works in Germany. She is popular in Azerbaijan, Germany and Austria and has already stated that she has applied for this year’s selection. She was a member of the German girl group Bisou who came to fame via the show ‘Popstars’. Their big song was “Die erste Träne”

2 – DiHaj ( Diana Hacıyeva)

She is a professional jazz singer and right now works at Baku Jazz center. We know her from 2011 ESC Selection and she is one of the best friend of Elnur Huseynov ( ESC2008 and ESC2015)

3. -Samira Efendiyeva

We know her from Boyuk Sehne ( Big Stage). Now she fights for being the best voice of Azerbaijan – The Voice

4 – Vaqif

Vaqif was a participant on the Ukrainian ‘The Voice’ contest and narrowly missed out on winning the show. However he now finds himself as a popular singer in both Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

5 – Latifa Soyuoz

She is popular among rock fans here in Azerbaijan and would be an interesting option to send to Eurovision.

6 – İlhame Qasimova

We know her from 2004 when she won Yeni Ulduz 4, in this contest Aysel Teymurzade also was one of the participants. Then she wanted to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision and entered the 2011 selection.. Since then she has moved to Germany and is signed with Universal Music Germany.

7 – Fərid Hasanov

Fərid Həsənov won the first Turkviziyon Song Contest and we also know him from the Milli Secim Tour. He is very popular in Azerbaijan and is seen as an overall performer.

So there you have it. 7 acts that will be new to a lot of people across Europe but 7 very different acts indeed.

OH WAIT!

I am going to add another surprise entrant into my wishlist for Eurovision 2016. We all like an unexpected surprise!

8 – Rast

Rast is a band in the Azerbaijani music industry. They were formed in 1993 by the Honored artist of Azerbaijan Rashad Hashimov and his colleagues Vilayat Gahramanzadeh, Asif Kerimov and Ilgar Kuliyev. From the very first days the group attracted both critical and popular success. Their synthesis of Jazz and Azeri Folk music has given them a lot of affection and popularity with the Azeri people.
