MALTA : Our thoughts on how Amber should stage her Eurovision Entry ‘Warrior’

So here we go with our first thoughts on ‘How Should They Stage their song at Eurovision 2015’?

First, here‘s our interview with Amber, who won the Malta Eurovision Song Contest last November.

Malta is one of those countries that no-one can possibly hate. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and I’m sure a lot of you would love to see a Maltese win. Their hosting of the Junior Eurovision was exemplary, and where else would you get the President (no less) coming around and introducing herself to everyone?

Now what do you think of someone mentions a warrior? A Māori perhaps? Or a tall, proud Zulu? Well it may not be such a good idea if they were on stage. Although it would get the song noticed.

Joking aside, a lot of the work for the staging for this was done when Amber won her national final last November. It needs to be mainly static, maybe be with more than a hint of Conchita’s staging last year. Amber wore a black dress last November, so maybe she should stick to something long and similar. Or perhaps a striking red. Amber has an extremely powerful voice, so if she needs backing singers, then they should be placed at a discreet distance to the side of stage. Not necessarily shrouded in shadow, but definitely low key. And definitely NO dancers!

If there’s a backdrop, it should be similarly dramatic. The one used in stage performance last November pretty much hits the mark, but maybe a little less silver.

Finally, it’s not a song that would lend itself well to indoor pyrotechnics. Flames, on the other hand, could work, especially towards the end of the song.

So you can perhaps get a flavour, this video is the live performance.

But what do you think?

  1. I think she should stick with ‘The Matrix’ trenchcoat look or maybe wear tight motorcycle gear a la Carrie-Ann Moss. If she did, she could have actors on stage that she pushes away and they fly off like in the movie, then she flies across the auditorium and fights loads of Agent Smiths…

Woah, where did I go with that one? :)

I did love her NF look and it does suggest ‘strong woman’ but I do agree that this is another one where maybe focussing just on her is key.
