“Goran Bregovic has received an order from the Ukraine to compose a song that will represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014”. This is the headline that has greeted us today from the Serbian News Agency “InSerbia News”.
Goran Bregovic is one of the most internationally known modern musicians and composers of the Balkans. .
Bregović has composed for many International artists from Iggy Pop to Cesária Évora. He came to prominence while playing lead guitar with his rock band Bijelo Dugme. He has also composed film scores for three of Emir Kusturica’s films (Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream, and Underground)
If Goran’s name sounds familiar to you – and it should – he was the composer of the Serbian Eurovision entry for 2010 “Ovo Je Balkan” sung by Milan Stanković.
According to “InSerbia News” – Goran allegedly declined the offer but the Ukrainian broadcaster were insistent and made an offer for a composition from him for Eurovision 2014. They have also allegedly given him the decision on who will perform his composition.
Bregovic is currently on a world tour to promote his album “Champagne for Gypsies”. There is as of yet no official confirmation from the Ukrainian national broadcaster on the story. We have reached out to Mr Bregovic’s Press team for confirmation. We will keep you updated as this story unfolds.
