The last appearance of Poland at Eurovision was in 2011 when they were represented by Magdalena Tul and her song “Jestem”. It has been some time since Düsseldorf but Magdalena is back with a new song.

Magdalena Tul’s long-awaited song is entitled “I am who I am”.

“I am Who I Am” forms part of a 4 track EP that will be released later in November.

Magdalena is experimenting with her musical genre and said “I have decided to release the EP to signal a new trend and finish a certain stage. This will give me more freedom while working on the rest of the material. This is also to satisfy my fans who are patiently looking for the EP.”

So what of the song?

“I Am Who I Am” is an RnB/Dub Step track that is certainly a grower. I have listened to it several times now and I am hooked. A female empowerment song for 2013 where Magdalena takes charge of her own destiny.

From the opening heartbeat sounds of the song, I was taken by the sweet 70’s funky guitar rifts that are the backdrop to the melody in the baseline. Magdalena has an amazing voice that changes between keys effortlessly. This song reminds me of something I am expecting on the new Mariah Carey album  – and that is praise from me.

Give this song a few listens and you will keep hearing subtle tones in the song that you will have missed on first listen. This is sure to be a hit in Poland and herald a comeback for Poland’s last entrant at Eurovision.

In case you cannot remember Magdalena at Eurovision, then there you have “Jestem”. We look forward to the release of her EP next month. Until then you can download Magdalena’s “I Am Who I Am” on iTunes here
