Yes “Neo – Get us out of here” is what Spain have pinned their hopes on for Eurovision 2013. After much speculation about whom would represent Spain in Malmö – Not even the Oracle herself could have predicted that Morpheus’Dream AKA El Sueño De Morfeo would be the Spanish entry
Pictured above you can see that they are a trio – Lead Vocalist Raquel del Rosario, guitarists Juan Luis Suárez and David Feito. They came to the Spanish music scene originally in 2002 under the name of Xemá but to little success. Like all good artists they went away to discover themselves – and look at The Matrix Trilogy – and came back in 2005 as El Sueño De Morfeo and were an instant success in Spain.
In 2005/2006 you could not keep them out of the Spanish and Latin American charts with hit single after hit single
- 2005: “Nunca volverá” — #1
- 2005: “Ojos de cielo” — #6
- 2005: “Okupa de tu corazón” — #19
- 2006: “Ésta soy yo” — #8 (SPN)
- 2006: “Tómate la vida” (Cruzcampo Theme Song) — #1
- 2005: “1+1 son 7” (with Fran Perea) (Los Serrano Theme Song) — #1 (SPN – 2 weeks)
- 2006: “Déjame Verte” (with Diego Martín) — #1 (SPN – 2 weeks)
- 2006: “Reencontrar” (Cars Soundtrack Spanish Edition)
- 2006: “Sonrisa Especial” (LaSexta Theme Song)
Success lead them to appearing on the Soundrtack to the Pixar Movie “Cars” the Spanish Edition. You can see that their music has a celtic, folk, rock. pop and guitar based sound. Does that sit well at Eurovision?

From 2009 onwards it would be fair to say that the band took a well deserved break and have been slowly returning to popularity through sell out tours across Spain and Europe. 2012 saw them release their album “Buscamos sonrisas” which peaked at number 16 in the Spanish charts and produced 2 hit singles. Signed to the Warner Label like last year’s Spanish entrant Pastora Soler – the band are certainly hungry for success again and will take Eurovision very serious.
They are currently working on the songs for the Spanish Selection that will be released on the Spanish Broadcasters RTVE‘s Website first and then a TV show will follow where the public will decide what song El Sueño De Morfeo will perform in Malmö.
This is an interesting band and I have high hopes that they will bring something different to the contest. Maybe they have seen the “Lord Of The Rings” trilogy this time around.

Can they bring Spain into the Top 10 again in 2013?
