Eurovision 2024: Roundup of Day 4 of Rehearsals in Malmö

Today has seen the fourth day of rehearsals in the Malmö Arena, this time the acts who will participate in the second half of Semi Final 2 on 9th May getting their first opportunity to grace the Malmö stage . As has been the case with previous years, the first and second set of rehearsals are closed to the press .However, you can see snippets of the rehearsals and artists on TikTok during the week of the first rehearsals and in the second week you can see snippets of the rehearsals on the official Eurovision You Tube channel .Today saw Latvia opening proceedings , followed by San Marino , Georgia ,Belgium , Estonia , Israel ,Norway with Netherlands closing the day .

Here are some clips taken from Tik Tok today with my initial reactions after watching the actual footage myself on TIK Tok , however please do bear in mind that the clips are not of the full performances and we await the second set of the rehearsals where we may get more of an idea of how the performances will look in full .

Latvia

Dons is alone on stage , just inside a prop in the shape of a circle . He is dressed in a royal blue sleeveless suit . In the backdrop there is a white spotlight , purple background with orange lighting which looks like it is depicting an eclipse .The LED effects then transform into a kind of galaxy appearance , with pulsating circles . Dons’s vocals are sound and he does not need backing singers to lift this song, he sings with emotion and from the heart. I think this might do better than some think it will .

San Marino

Megara’s clearly there to entertain . They have opted for a pink and black outfits with the lead singer having pink and black hair to match , in a Princess Leia type hairstyle ! There’s stripping off of a coat , pink PVC ,a dinosaur spine. LED background effects are of black and pink artwork , including a bat ! Lovers of pyro effects will love Megara . There’s a lot packed into this and I can see fans of rock and punk really enjoying this . I can’t wait to see the rest of the performance .

Georgia

Nutsa’s outfit is a short bronze/gold dress, wearing black heels on her feet with strings up to her knees . She’s joined on stage by four backing dancers in long black tops with black trousers to match . Nutsa starts the performance alone on stage , on a raised platform under a red spot light with LED graphics painting a circle which goes on to become the ball of fire .There are also smoke and flame effects. The backing dancers enthusiastically dance their routine with Nutsa taking centre stage .

Belgium

One I am sure that we have all been waiting to see due to its high bookie odds. Mustii is dressed all in white with a glittery top under his shirt . He is alone on stage . Mustii is stood on a platform with smoke effects and there is a circle of microphones ( yes you read that right !) on top of the platform surrounding Mustii. Looks like he borrowed the idea from Kate Ryan in 2006 with more than one microphone on stage and just added more microphones than she had back then . The platform turns around as Mustii performs the song . He then walks to the front of the stage . There’s white, yellow , blue and orange lighting .

Estonia

The band are all in black with dark glasses , giving very much the Blues Brothers look. 5MINUUST in black suits while Puuluup are in black sleeveless outfits .This is another act that has opted to use LED cubes , which are in the backdrop and are lit up in yellow, green and pink , as well as some reflecting from the ceiling. With their various instruments, they give us an enthusiastic dance routine . How this will fare against the other , bonkers acts in the competition remains to be seen . Let’s see what the full performance is like .

Israel

Eden is in a long white dress , accompanied by five contemporary backing dancers dressed in white and grey . There is a circular platform on stage with a built in wind machine . There’s also ladders there which the dancers go up and down on and the platform is lit up with neon lights .LED wall has swirling type effects and smoke effects which presumably is to represent the hurricane .

Norway

Gunnhild , the lead singer is dressed in a dark green, off the one shoulder top with one of the shoulders decorated with a green leaf type effect and matching trousers . The remaining band members are in black . The performance is basically similar to that in NMGP , with the main prop being a circular spinning platform made up of trees and rocks .LED screen has dark and swirly graphics with a spotlight. There’s also fog effects . We await to see the full performance.

Netherlands

And last but not least, another act we have all been waiting for. Joost Klein takes to the stage for The Netherlands .He’s in his now familiar blue suit with pointed sleeves ..Joining him on stage is a keyboard player wearing a blue chicken costume , with a yellow beak ,possibly to represent the EU logo . The LED graphics resemble the preview video with images of the sky and a world globe , and moving pictures of European tourist spots and traditional European dishes . .There’s also a cartoon image of Joost himself running while Joost dances enthusiastically on stage . He’s accompanied by two dancers dressed in white tracksuits . This is catchy to the point of being very ‘in your face’ and we haven’t even seen the end of the performance yet ,so who knows what else Joost has in store for us?
