#BIRTHDAY: 17 Feb – Albert Černý from Czechia is 37

Do you like to see lots of young groups in our favourite TV show? We know soloists are more likely to win, but a band doing there stuff on stage can sometimes pay dividends.

Our friends in Czechia have used soloists and bands. In fact, their first foray into Eurovision was with a band, but we’re going to gloss over that result. But in 2019, ČT sent the band Lake Malawi, fronted by today’s birthday boy Albert Černý. Lake Malawi’s performance was very innovative, and was aimed to appeal to the InstaTok generation. With it’s shots of the band in portrait and bright colours, they could have been onto a winner. Their runners-up spot in their semi-final (even though they didn’t know that at the time) did mean they maybe had the right ingredients. But an eleventh place in the Grand Final isn’t that bad, is it?
