Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s February 17th:

Saturday 17th February 1979

On this day in 1979, the 18th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Ted Gärdestad took victory with “Satellit” and 105 points. At the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem, Ted finished 17th, with 8 points.
