#BIRTHDAY: 30 Jan – Deniz Felizman from Germany is 48
Do you love languages? That might be a silly question – you’re a fan of a continental music show for starters. But do you like lots of languages in a song? Or can it backfire?
In 1999 we were way out west. Our friends in Germany saw this is the perfect chance to mix things up a little. If you recall, it was the year the free language rule returned, so ARD thought about using not just German, but Turkish and English too. Wow. Sometimes these mixes don’t work, but on this occasion it did. Today’s birthday girl Deniz Filizmen – the left-most singer – did her bit mainly in German. This song co-written by the legendary Bernd Meinunger managed a third place finish – not a bad thing, and I’m sure ARD would do anything for another third place finish these days.
