
Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s January 29th:
Saturday 29th January 1966
On this day in 1966, the 7th edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Lill Lindfors & Svante Thuresson took victory with “Nygammal vals” and 26 points. At the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest in Luxembourg City, Lill & Svante finished 2nd, with 16 points.
Thursday 29th January 1959
On this day in 1959, the 1st edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Stockholm. Siw Malmkvist took victory with “Augustin” and 105 points. At the 1959 Eurovision Song Contest in Cannes, Brita Borg finished 9th, with 4 points.
