
Björn Skifs, the Swedish representative at the 1978 & 1981 Eurovision Song Contest, as well participant at Melodifestivalen 1972 & 1975, is bringing his music career to an end.
Björn Skifs announced the news after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Björn Skifs had the following to say in a press statement:
“It’s not easy to take in, neither for me nor my loved ones and it feels so incredibly sad in so many ways. But I’ve lived a rich and amazing life, filled with music, love and laughter. Thank you to everyone who in some way has been a part of my artist life, not least the audience! Now it’s time to slow down and take one day at a time.”
While he didn’t qualify for the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest, Björn Skifs’ Melodifestivalen entry that year, “Michelangelo”, did achieve seven weeks at number one, on the Swedish Singles chart. You can watch the Melodifestivalen performance below:
