Khabar Agency, the Kazakh national broadcaster, have hinted that Kazakhstan is likely to debut at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest – the 70th Anniversary Contest.
Following a visit to the EBU General Assembly in London, Kemelbek Oishybayev, Chairman of the Board at Khabar Agency, shared a post on Instagram following his attendance (which can be seen below). Kemelbek Oishybayev reports that Kazakhstan’s participation in the 70th Anniversary Contest was discussed with EBU the Director General, Noel Curran.
Positive arguments for participation, which will be discussed at the next EBU General Assembly, include:
- Geography
- Participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
- Strengthening ties with the European Union
In regards to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Khabar Agency recently ANNOUNCED only a handful of weeks ago, that they wouldn’t be attending the 2025 Contest, in Tbilisi – however this decision could be reversed if participation at the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest is on the radar. Back in September 2021, a SUGGESTION of participation was made for 2025, following a separation of international telephone dialling codes with Russia.
