
Here at Eurovision Ireland, we are taking a historical look back on our favourite Contests past and present, on the very day they took place. Today it’s March 31st:
Sunday 31st March 1991
On this day in 1991, the 31st edition of Melodifestivalen took place in Malmö. Carola took victory with “Fångad av en stormvind” and 78 points. At the 1991 Eurovision Song Contest in Rome, Carola finished 1st, with 146 points.
Saturday 31st March 1979
On this day in 1979, the 24th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Jerusalem, Israel. Turkey withdrew from the Contest. Israel took victory with Milk & Honey performing “Hallelujah” and 125 points.
